Question:
Which boy's name do you prefer: Benedict or Sirius?

Benedict is a Latin name meaning "blessed". Saint Benedict founded the Benedictine Order of monks. It is in his honor that the dish Eggs Benedict was named.

Sirius is the name of a bright star in the Canis Major constellation; its name means "burning". In mythology, it is the name of the dog owned by the hunter Orion.

Would you prefer your son to be blessed from birth or burn like a bright star? Or do the references to eggs and dogs make you choose one over the other?

definitly sirius. When people say your son's name, they will think of Benedict Arnold. I really like the name Sirius, and i like the reference to a dog. sirius is definitly the best. people will think that Sirius will have a cool name. If he has the name Benedict, people will just pity him.

The link between Benedicts and eggs is too strong for me... I would go with Sirius.

I dont think of dogs when i hear Sirius, just the guy from one of the Harry Potter movies, and i prefer that association than one of eggs.

Plus, it would be cool to be named after a burning, bright star. I would give the middle name Blaze so it would be Sirius Blaze... I actually love the sound of that name :)

Alright so. My real name is Sirius, I am 13 years old atm. Now, I get teased a lot which is kind of annoying but I can take it. Here are the things people say to me: Are you serious? Are you serious, Sirius? Why so serious? Seriously?. I'm not sure if I would of liked to be named something else, but all I can say is that having the name Sirius is a unique experience.

I like Sirius better, because Benedict reminds me of the traitor, Benedict Arnold.

Benedict. Sirius reminds me of the character off Harry Potter. I also like the meaning better of Benedict :)

I prefer Sirius but people will be forever comparing him to Harry Potter which probably won't even be that popular anymore once he's old enough... Benedict might be a better choice in the long run and if he does decide he dislikes it he can always be Ben or Benny.

2009-03-13 17:58:08 UTC
benedict arnold was a traitor and this name will forever be associated with that.

Sirius is a ridiculous name , any association with dog is not good.

Find a normal name like james or trevor or sean, or something, give the kid a chance, not a ball and chain.

Just going by what the names means, I'd vote Sirius.

I personally wouldn't want my kid to be named after a traitor, or a satellite radio provider. Just me,,,,,

Do you want your son to have his butt kicked on a daily basis? Those names are pretty lame and will surely lead to much hardship for them in elementary school and beyond.
