Question:
Are these names too "Sound of Music"?

You see, ever since I was little I have been in LOVE with the movie "The Sound of Music" and Julie Andrews. It's the greatest. Anyway, I also happen to love the style of names the characters have. I like them regardless of the movie, most I liked before I even saw the movie.

I like these names and would love to name my children them:
Brigetta
Louisa (and Louise)
Leisl
Marta (or Martha? I can't split the 2)
Gretl
Friedrich
Elsa
Max (Maxwell would be the full name but would go by Max)

So the question is, if you met siblings with these names (not all but like a pick of them. Say Maxwell Elliot, Madeleine Louisa and Brigitta Rose) would you automatically think of the musical, The Sound of Music?

I HAVE seen the "Sound of Music" a few times, but I wouldn't have thought, "Oh those are Sound of Music names" to be quite honest.

They are, mostly, noticeably German, but I doubt you are going to have eight children - all eight names together do show quite a pattern.

If you only had three children, I probably wouldn't notice them even being German (except Friedrich, which does stand out quite a bit).

I know people called Brigetta, Louisa, Marta, Gretl, Liesel, Elsa and Max in real life who don't come from German backgrounds.

And no, the three names you picked out don't sound even remotely "Sound of Music" to me! I think are they exceptionally nice names (except I think Maxwell Elliot sounds like two surnames together, so I'm a bit iffy on that one).

Well I guess it depends on the amount of children you are planning on producing lol.

One or two then some of these names will be fine as first and middle names... but if you go on to have your own 'mini sound of music' family its gonna look and sound a little daft.

Its also gonna depend on your last name!

But to answer your question: if I met, for example Maxwell Elliot, Madeleine Louisa and Brigitta Rose, then no I would not quickly think of the film... but anymore children with that kinda name then yeah I probs would!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Louise and Louisa! It's a favorite name - classic, timeless, elegant! I especially like Mary Louse - it's a family name.

Gretl is nice, too. I really like both Gretchen and Greta as well - I'd probably pick Gretchen, as too many names now end with "a."

Brigetta is a little too fancy. I don't think it would flatter say, a CFO. I'm not wild about Mart(h)a or Elsa either.

Friedrich is great! Max is ok, but I know too many dogs named Max.

If it was Maxwell Elliot, Madeleine Louisa and Brigitta Rose, I probably wouldn't think of it. BUT if it was Maxwell, Leisl, Brigitta and Friedrich, yah I'd probably think of it. I really like those names though! :)

Funny, I just did a post on Liesel - a Sound of Music name I've long loved.

As you describe using the names, I don't think it's too much. But my husband (and brother-in-law) groan every time my sister and I turn on the movie, so whether your other half will go for it? That's another question!

In first seeing those names I would say yes it does make me think of The Sound of Music.

I love the examples you chose. They sound classy but not snooty. I do like that style of names. I love The Sound of Music, too, but I don't think I would automatically think of it hearing those names. Maybe Brigitta... but I still think it's pretty.

No not at all. I mean unless you had 7 children, lined them all up then introduced them all. I think Louisa is beautiful x

Yes, I definitely would think of the Sound of music.

Probably because I've seen it around 200 times ^_^

Yes, I think I would but that's good, because as you said it is a good movie, but I like the names because they are one of a kind, and that's how it should be.

Probably not the ones you picked.

But if you said Leisel, Gretel & Frederick I would say yes.

Can anything really be *too* Sound of Music? :)

I love all the names you picked, independently of the musical. I hope you do use them someday.
