Question:
Arguments for and against middle names? Any suggestions?

Me and my boyfriend are having a debate about middle names - I have one and he doesn't, I'm for and he's against - and I would like some good arguments for both sides of the issue.

Also, the names we like the best for our children are:
Rodika Vencu (for a girl; Rod-ee-kah)
Iulian Vencu (for a boy; Yu-lee-ann)
My boyfriend is Romanian and they would have his last name.

I would like some suggestions for middle names, preferably British as their first and last names are Romanian, that sound nice with the above. Vencu is pronounced Venn-coo (for some reason, many people have trouble pronouncing it).

Thank you very much! :)

For a middle name:

If your parents gave you a horrible name you don't have to stick with it, you could go by your middle name. Like if your name was Shanaqualeesha Madison Smith (bad example o_o) you could go by Madison and skip Shanaqualeesha.

I agree with the other answer about having one for identity purposes...I see your child won't have a super common name but it still would be a good thing to have.

A middle name is used in many cases to honor someone and makes a name have more meaning.

I think it would be so plain not to have a middle name. Middle names are also good when you want a more unique name but it doesn't work as a first name.

Ive just been discussing with my friend about middle names. She has just had a baby and gave it no middle name, i asked why and she just said she was adamant she didnt want the baby to have one because its just hassle when your writing it down. They already have their own identity with the first and last name, you dont need a middle name.

Me on the other hand, i love names and think they generally sound nicer when there is a middle name. I am adamant my child WILL have a middle name :)

Hope this helps

Cute names! My husband and I had the same problem. I liked the sound of Mae at the end of my daughters name, so she would be Suri Mae. My husband was against middle names, so we didn't put it on the birth certificate. But if anybody asks, she says her middle name is Mae. I always call her Suri-Mae! That was the solution we found. So basically, it's not official but we say it is. This way, we can change it if we want!

Names:

Rodika Jane Vencu

Lulian Tom Vencu

Hope you like them, and contact me for any help x

The best reason for a middle name is specification of identity. While there can be several dozen Julian Smiths, for instance, it is unlikely that there are as many (or even more than one) Julian Thomas Smith.

This answer is for a middle name. There are times, for example when applying for a federal job, that if you don't have a middle name you have to write in (none).
