is Sed a guy's name?

there's this person i'm not very close with. everyone calls him Sed. i asked him what his real name was and he said ppl just call him sed. my other friend told me that his real name is long and hard to rememeber or something. so could sed be like a nickname for a middle eastern name? idk his nationality btw. i only know this guy is called sed. sed kinda sounds middle eastern to me. do you know anyone who gets called sed

Could well be short for something. But I can tell you that Sed means "but" in Latin. How's that for an original answer? :-)
