Question:
What's the difference these two options?

1). Naming a baby girl Avery

and

2). Naming a baby boy Amelia

In my opinion it's the exact same thing, yet people seem to disapprove of the second option, but the first option seems to be absolutely fine.
Why? I'm genuinely curious!

I see no difference. But people approve on boy names for girls because they're "so cute and unique!" - and they believe that a girl named Emerson or Spencer will ever be teased or bullied, whereas a boy with a girl name, or even a boy with an effeminate masculine name or a unisex name will, of course, get the crap kicked out of them at school - that's the logic, supposedly.

Again, I see no difference. Actually, there is one difference:

At a fancy job interview, a man named Amelia will have as much of a chance as his opponents; Alexander and James. Whereas a woman named Avery (outside of the U.S), will inevitably lose to an Elizabeth or an Ava due to her lack of a professional name. Sexist, I know, but that's the way it goes. :3

I disagree with both options. Only because I hate the name Avery. Amelia is a very girly name, Avery isn't. Avery has a boyish charm to it but it still sounds feminine hence the fact it can be used on both genders. Amelia is a frilly name, so obviously it shouldn't be put on a boy. It's pretty obvious. Baby names can change genders and become socially seen as unisex during the years, although they may not originally be unisex.

Naming any baby Avery, those people minds as well name her Aviary and stick her in one.

Amelia should never be a boys name.

I'm glad you've made this point.

Oh of course back to the question there is no difference.

Nothing.

Avery is a boy name and Amelia is a GORGEOUS girls name, in fact I want to name my first daughter Amelia Noelle after my idol Amelia Earhart.

A name is a name. It's what you like. It's what makes sense for you. If you think Amelia is a boy's name then so be it, but other people are not so unconventional. I think people are more comfortable with a boy-ish girl name than a girly boy name. Names really do make a first impression and can unfortunately hold a person back because of the judgmental opinions of others. That is a good topic, though. I've always wondered the same thing myself.

Times change. Avery is unisex now. Get over it. If you don't like it on a girl, don't use it on a girl. It's not that hard.
