Question:
What do you think of September as a middle name?
2009-05-24 17:11:39 UTC
It's not my usual style, but I've been seeing it more and more and I like it. If I ever used it, it would be as a girls' middle name -- what do you think?

My usual taste leans towards classic or vintage -- here are a few sample combinations.

-- Charlotte September
-- Amelia September
-- Annabel September
-- Audrey September
-- Katherine September

In this context, do you think September would feel odd or mismatched? Or do you think it might add some offbeat appeal to old-fashioned names?

Thanks!

I actually quite like September. I think it accompanies the vintage names nicely. Along with that, middle names generally aren't heard on often occasion anyway... so I'm a HUGE fan of using whatever it is that you love for a middle name.

I actually have a few month-inspired middle names on my list for remembrance of what happened during that month. June would be a huge one... June is pretty much the most amazing month of my life every year... Along with March, but I might change that one to Marcheline...

So, I happen to think September would make a fine middle name. I think it definitely spices up the old-fashioned names a bit. I mean, the old-fashioned names are gorgeous and classic, and September just adds a bit of pizzaz and fun. I really like that.

I think it only makes sense if the baby is born in September. My d-i-l's middle name is April and that's her birth month.

It's sort of awkward for a name. Doesn't exactly roll off your tongue. Yell it out the window, as in, "Charlotte September you come here this instant!" Picture it on a wedding invitation. It could work if you have a simple last name like Jones or Smith.

I actually prefer a combination of the first names you selected...

Charlotte Annabel

Audrey Katherine

Well, it all depends on you and your spouse. September is a month with lots of dry, cold meanings, but beauty can be found inside of it. Also, if you like vintage things, September would be great. It's very rustic. Personally, I would use Katherine September, because it's unique and could develop into something that's a style for your whole future family, months as names, nicknames, or just to describe people with, but it's definitely not odd. It's just special and compelling.

I think it's sort of appealing, but would seem out of place if she weren't born in September, I think Audrey September has the best fluidity, though all of the first names are lovely. I think it breathes some eccentricity into the old-fashioned names listed about, because none of the first names are old-fashioned in a way that is hugely uncommon.

(If you had children named Magdalene, Gretel or Vera it'd be different because they're very old-fashioned, and September would be a bit clashy)

Audrey September or Charlotte September. It does feel a bit mismatched but, its okay. Charlotte Rose or Audrey Rose sounds beautiful. Maybe Charlotte Audrina (her nickname could be Cah) or Audrey Meadow. Good luck!

No, I'm not crazy about it. Especially with such traditional names. It feels very mismatched. I'm just not seeing the appeal. I know a couple of people with month names (besides the "normal" ones like april and june) and they are kind of oddballs. It may just be the association thing-I dislike one girl named January and I associate month names with being an ugly jerk.

But then again, it's only her middle name and no one else will hear it, so you're free to be as creative as you want! :-)

That's tough. some of these names look like they're right on the boarder between really nice, cute names and porn star names. i wouldn't go with audrey september if i were you. it seems kind of clunky to me. i like the near alliteration in charlotte september though. it has a really nice ring to it!

september is too much for a middle name.

i personally think middle names should be more of an accent to a name, not something that stands out like crazy.

When this Girl grows up and she is teased all her life common sense tells you that September is the name of a month of the year not a middle name of a child. Ever think of calling your boy pickup truck?

What are you thinking? Vintage my goodness......................
2009-05-24 17:15:32 UTC
I think i quite like that actually! Charlotte or Amelia go best with it
