As the daughter of a teacher, and an ex government employee, I have to stress the importance of spelling names CORRECTLY, and as simply as possible.

My mother used to laugh until she cried every night after the first day of school when she would say: THIS year, I have 6 Michaelas: 2 Mickayla's, 1 mckayla, 1 Miccala, 1mackailah, and 1 Muhkallah! It is ridiculous to spell any name differently than the proper spelling.

As a government employee, I know the difficulty kids have in dealing with the silly spellings their parents gave them. Nobody knows how to pronounce or even spell their name, and when they spell the name the REAL way, the kids says "NO, that's the wrong spelling....you spell Mary like this: MayREEIGH." (sigh).

If you are looking for an UNCOMMON name, by all means, do not choose Mckenna, or Sienna. Those are extremely overused names for this 5 year period.

Trendin is very odd, and nobody would call shadalyn by her name because they wouldn't know how to pronounce it or even spell it.

My name is Gwen....ONE syllable, and only 4 letters, and can you imagine? I still get people who don't know how to say or pronounce my name, so it must be hell for kids with more complicated names.

The names you have chosen are wonderful. I never thought of the name Kendrick..it's nice.. and I thought about calling my daughter Sienna.. I love that name..I like Makenna too.. it's just a wee bit more common than Sienna.

As a rule, I am not fond of "made-up" names, nor are most elementary-school teachers or anyone else who may have to struggle with pronunciation. Also, your child will have a heck of a time finding personalized pencils and mini license plates and such if the name you chose is really unusual or made-up. (This doesn't sound like a big deal, but believe me, your kids will think it's a big deal.)

They're all bad, sorry. Brendan is trendy, Kendrick is even trendier, Makenna is vomit worthy, and Sieanna is misspelled.

I agree completely with fizzygurrl- I teach Kindergarten and I really do appreciate names that are a bit easier to pronounce. I also had a girl in my class name Nikhole (pronounced Nicole) who cried one time because she couldn't find a personalized pencil with her name on it, and her friend Sara had one.

Seems a bit silly, but it really is kind of important to a child.

My daughter is Samara and I love it. It is unique but not strange or hard to pronounce. You can also change the first letter to be different.
