I'm writing a narrative for English class, and I'm having some trouble naming my character. He's from Moldova, specifically, but I would be satisfied with a name from any eastern European country. (Romanian, Russian, Ukranian, etc.)

Please also include how to pronounce the name.

Thank you!

From the other answers only Andrei is Romanian. Moldova can be two things. The North Eastern part of Romania or the independent Republic of Moldova which borders Romania in the east. Either way, the Moldovans from the independent country also speak Romanian as a native language so you need Romanian names.

I'd try Andrei, Vlad, Ovidiu, Cosmin, Sorin, Liviu, Iulian, Dumitru, Mircea, Ștefan, Aurel etc.

Vlad = V from vendetta, L from last, A from father, D from Dan.

Ovidiu = O from floor, v from vendetta, I like the i from machine, D from Dan, I the same as before, U like the oo from oops.

Cosmin = C from car, o the same as before, S from smart, M from machine, I the same as before, N from nostril.

Sorin = S from spoon, o like before, R from ring, I like before, N like before

Liviu = all like before

Iulian = all like before

Dumitru = T from tank, the rest as before

Mircea = all like before exept the letter group "ce" which is read like ch in chimpanzee.

Ștefan = Ș like the sh from shoe. F like f in fruit, the others are like before.

Aurel = all like before.

You take all these letters, combine them and you get the correct pronunciation. It takes a little practice. You have to know that Romanian is a phonetic language, unlike English. That means e pronounce the letters generally the same no matter where they are in the word. Not like in English where for example you pronounce a in apple in a way and a in father in another way. Hope I helped
