We are about to have a daughter. Should I still name her Isabella??? My husband and I are used to having strange and unique names. Isabella would have qualified in 1991.

I wouldn't do it. I grew up with a very popular 80's name and I had to be numbered while I was in school.

When I did work I had to sign my name and then put the number 14 after is so they knew which one I was! Trust me it wasn't fun and because of this I will NEVER give my child a popular name. Not INSANELY weird name either, a good middle one.

Isabella is CRAZY popular now, I garentee you that when you're little girl is in class she will be one of 4-5 Isabella's / Isabelle's She'll hate it just like I did I am nearly possitive.

I actually know EXACTLY how you feel! About 13 years ago I LOVED the name Isabel and was going to name my daughter that when I got old enough and I went through lengths to keep is hiden and secret so it didn't get popular..... what was the point right? lol.

What's funny too, when my mom named me she didn't know it was popular.... Always a good thing to check (it was just starting to get popular as she named me)

Anyways if you like the sound of it how about,

Isadora

Isadore

Iszara

Isalia

Desdemona (Dez-duh-moan-ah)

Esmeralda (people might know of this from bewitched though and think it a 'witch' name)

Hope I helped, to me those name I suggest are simular or have the same whispy soft and mysterious feel that Isabella does but without the popularity!

I feel the exact same way! I love Isabella/Bella to death! And even though I'm only 13, I can promise you I have liked this name way before it became too popular! I feel the exact same way about Nora, my all time favorite name after my grandmother, that is now becoming popular as well!

Its a toughie, because for me, I have time for it to grow out of style, then again, it may become overused by then. Right now its hopping, so your daughter will most definitely have another Bella in the room with her when she starts school.

My advice for your daughter is to go ahead and name her Isabella. I am the same way about unique names, but I have grown to realize that names are only reflections of who you want your child to be, and that naming your baby a 'popular' name doesn't mean you will love her any less, in fact, I think it will be much more special for her to know that for nearly 20 years you knew that your firstborn daughter would be an Isabella.

If you would like, however, give her a unique middle name, or give her two middle names. It wil freshen the vibe. I really like Bella Adare or Isabella Trinity. But I also like Isabella Marine, or if you want to give her two middle names to make it different, I would say Isabella Yvonne Telaina or Isabella Eden Leshae (Lee-shay).

If you really do not want to give your baby girl a common name, then I would say definitely incorporate Isabella somewhere in the name, because it must be so personal to you.

Congratulations on your first child, and keep us updated on what you decide about your situation!

Well, that was a long time ago. The year I was born, in fact :)

I'd still go for it. To hell with popularity. If you like a name, you should use it. If the name I'm in love with gets popular by the time I have a baby, I still intend to go with it.

People lament about how it's hard to be one of a few in a class, but I've gone my life being referred to as Steph S or blonde Steph or Stephanie Jayne on the register, in class and whatnot, and it's not as taxing as everyone makes out. It has never bothered me. I really don't see the issue with popular names. Isabella is beautiful.

Isabella has been gaining popularity over a period of many years actually due to soap characters and movies as well, not just suddenly because of twilight the movie either!!

Rosalie is a name i like a lot, i had a boyfriend whose youngest sister was named Rosalie and i have never bothered to watch twilight though i have been told there is a character there with this name, it doesnt matter to me i just like the name!

one word..Twilight. If you look at the top name charts right now, some of the most popular names right this moment are Edward, Isabella or Bella, Alice, Jasper, Emmett, Roaslie, Esme, Carlisle.. people didn't like half of those names until Twilight became so popular

Honestly, unique names are great but chose the name you like. Like I've always wanted to call my daughter "Fay" so, even if it's popular then, I wouldn't care! So, do what you want. BUT. If you want a unique name go for a different one :)! But for what it's worth, Isabella is a gorgeous name :D!

I still love Isabella despite it's popularity. It's always been pretty popular

where I lived in Mexico so I guess that's why I don't see it as unique but

it's still a lovely name. I still plan on using it. It was the name of many of

my ancestors so I plan on honoring them that way.

It's so not strange or unique. One reason for a push in popularity was probably because of the name being featured on television and in movies in this form or a similar one
