I like the name Iris a lot but my partner doesn't like it as it makes him think of the eye things, then I come across a name Irys which is a variant from Iris, but some of my friends think the spelling is horrid, I'm so confused now, I really need some good advices here.

Well, it's the same situation happened in me actually, my parents dislike the impression Iris link with the eyes, so they used a variant of it - Irys. And it's really depends how you feel about it, you know, i receive praises from people for my name but some people like the other comments down there as if it really sounds that bad.

However, i still like my name it makes a difference, so...the bottom line is name is really personal thing, just go with your heart.

I think Iris is a pretty name but I could see where Irys could lead to a life time of mis-spellings and confusion.

The spelling Irys really is awful. Iris is lovely.

I saw another comment that suggested this name and Isla is a near favourite of mine.

Please dont ruin a beautiful name like Iris.

Irys is fake, misspelled and just look ugly. It doesnt even look like a name.

If Iris reminds your partener of the eys, then Irys should too, cause its the same name just Misspelled.\

Please either use Iris, or look again for a name you love both, just dont kill a pretty name, and dont let your child suffer with misspelled name.

I really think you should look for other names, or just use Iris as a middle name.

names you may like:

Ivy (eye-vee)

Isla (eye-la)

Iva (Eye-vah)

Ilene (eye-leen)

Ileana(EE-le ah na)

Ilena (eye-leen uh)

Irene

Irena

Ivette

Juliana

Tatiana

Elena

Elora

Vivienne

Genevieve

Eva /Evelyn

Emelina

Or maybe you can use Iris as a nickname, I cant think of any name but Beatrice /Beatrix , or maybe use it like initial eg; Irena Isabelle ( IRena ISabelle =Iris) Just some thoughts.

Hope i helped

It's not that terrible actually, just unusuall as we all used to the classic Iris, but for a second thought it's quite special with a trendy-look

Iris . There are so many names that you can chose from . I'm sure you'll find the perfect one without going this way .

Iris is good. Irys is dumb. When she grows up, they'll think her mama didn't know how to spell.

Please don't butcher a perfectly beautiful name with that spelling. Compromise with your husband. Use it as a middle name, or find a similar I name...Isla (Eye-la), Isis, etc

Pronounce Iris the Nordic and Icelandic way, which is EE-ris- I don't see how changing the spelling will make it sound (i.e. when spoken) any different.
