I prefer James.
He could either go by Jimmy or Jamie.
I do think Jamie is a bit feminine for a boy...IF it were his given name.
But James is strong and masculine =)
Also, we he gets older, he'll get to pick what he wants to be called. Give him some options!

Jamie is a masculine boy's nickname, so no it's not weird to name your son Jamie. Although James with the nickname Jamie would be much better for when he's an adult.
If anything is weird, it's people who give the masculine Jamie to their daughters.

I think about 30 years ago it was strictly a boys name, about 20 years ago it started becoming a unisex name, and nowadays it's definitely a unisex name. So be prepared that your boy Jamie might be sitting in the same classroom with a girl named Jamie.
What about name your son James or Jamison (or even BenJAMIn I suppose), and nickname him Jamie?

I think it's a boy's name! I'm actually naming my son James, and we'll call him Jamey when he's little. I've always found Jamie a masculine sounding name. I would suggest doing the same as me, and naming him James. That will minimize any confusion about his gender, and give him choices if he ends up being more of a Jim sort of guy (although I hate the nickname Jim!)

I have a friend named Jamie, and she's a girl, so I think it works better as a girls' name but it can also be really cute as a boys' name when he's little. Name him James, and as a baby you can call him Jamie, but maybe as he gets older he'll decide he likes James more, or maybe he'll grow into Jamie.

In the 70's and 80's there was a huge push to name boys 'Jamie'. Those kids would now be in their 20s and 30s and I know some have now decided to call themselves 'James' which is more suitable for guys in business etc - not so 'cutesy' and more professional.
Why not call him James formally and you call him Jamie?
James is a lovely classy name.

Jamie's a unisex name honestly. It's usually used more for guys though.
If you're scared of him being ridiculed, name him James and his nickname can be Jamie.

Kind of. First of all, it's seems very feminine to me. Also, it seems more like a nick name, so you're son will have to answer "No, it's JUST Jamie" for the rest of his life.

I think spelling it a unique way would make it seem more like his own name and he wouldnt get ridiculed. When you see the name Jamie you wonder if it is a boy or girl but if you spelled it like Jayme or Jaimie maybe it would be easier to tell and not only that but he can have the confidence knowing he has his OWN name. Overall i dont think he would get ridiculed for his name being Jamie

To me, Jamie is definately a masculine name, and I actually find it a strange name for girls!
It's one of my favourite names, definately. It's really cute, but can suit a guy of all ages I think.
