I only have 1 middle name & I have a confirmation name (A saints name I chose when I was confirmed). So that's like having 2 middle names

I think it's pointless unless you are trying to honour someone or something

Katie Marie Elizabeth Paige (I didn't include my Confirmation name, I never really do)

I think more than 2 middle names is ridiculous. Two isn't that bad, as long as there is a reason for it.

My name is Megan Christine .... so Megan Christine Elizabeth Grace ..lol

I don't like the idea of two middle names, it is excessive and usually a mouthful.

I'm not sure. I realized after my first child that middle names don't really serve any purpose... at all. After about 3 weeks nobody even asked any more. My parents gave me two middle names because they are crap at compromising so just used everything, haha.

BQ: My name is Katia Aleksandra Yulianna. I guess I would become Katia Aleksandra Yulianna Lucy Rose. Yiiikes!

My husband is scotish so due to his traditions, you give your child his own first name and then the names of both moms or both dads depending on boy or girl. So you end up with 3 names.

Maybe it's just because they like their child to have a long name. I really don't know.

In my family it's tradition for the eldest child to have two middle names, and one of these middle names has to honour someone.

BQ -- I've already got two middle names so this is going to be fun:

I'm Victoria Rose Helen but if I added two more names into my name, I'd be: Victoria Elizabeth Rose Helen Marie. My name is now ridiculously long.

I agree that it's kind of pretentious. I don't really get the point of middle names anyway. 90 % of the people I know doesn't even realize I have one. Despite that I actually like my middle name. Every woman in my family on my father's side (what a mouthful) has had Marie as a middle name, so it's tradition and is why my future daughter shall be called Annie Marie (after my grandmother who I sadly never got to meet).

What would my name be? I love the name Genevieve, and my father wanted to name me Veronica, but my mother wouldn't let him, so I guess I could go with that one too.

Julie Genevieve Veronica Marie... not cool man.

I think it's just a matter of preference. Personally, I wouldn't do it but I really don't mind it on other people's children.

BQ: Kathryn Siobhan Fiona Aisling Jeanette.

My parents considered Aisling and Fiona for when they were expecting me and Janet is my mom's name so if my parents were actually to have given me more than one middle name it would probably be this.

Well, according to an article on Genealogy.com, middle names were hardly used in the United States until the nineteenth century. In fact, although my grandparents were born closer to the beginning of the twentieth century, only one of them has a middle name. So, one middle name in general has not been used forever.

In my opinion, two middle names may eventually become the new thing. Although this is not mentioned in the article, it seems logical that some people may have started choosing middle names to separate one John Smith from the other. Now, with even more people in the world, perhaps some people are choosing two middle names so that Elizabeth Rose Victoria Jones can be separate from Elizabeth Rose Amelia Jones. In other words, now their are so many popular first and middle name combinations that a third name has to be added to distinguish individuals further.

My other theory is that with access to naming websites, people have found too many names that they like so they just add more middle names because they can't decide which ones to get rid of.

I don't like it. It sounds more like you're just listing off names than saying one person's name. I used to do it as a kid when putting together my kids' names just because there were so many names I liked! lol.

I 100% agree with you. I think it's silly and pretentious. Whenever I see people use 2 middle names, I can tell they think they're being elegant and clever, but it's just ridiculous and chuckle-worthy. It's so obvious that they just want to use more of their favorite names and not realistically thinking on how it would just be seen as a nuisance to a real, live person for their entire life. However, like you said, I totally understand if it's for cultural or family tradition reasons, but that's about it. It just ends up sounding like a mish-mash of names, especially once you add a last name to the mess.

I think that if you know you can't have enough kids to use up all the names you love, then you fit them all into one child's name.

Holly Isabel Victoria Ann actually flows really well! wow!

I think it's okay! Honoring family with names is great, and sometimes a name flows better with a second middle name as well.

BQ: My full name is Elivia Loren Rose. Soo, Elivia Loren Matilda Alice Rose!

A bit of a mouthful...

Some people just like way it sounds and I've heard people say it's a way to use more names they love. I personally have thought about it but I couldn't see myself doing it especially because I love longer names for a first name anyway so it would be quite a mouthful.

BQ: Andrea Scarlet Fleur Renee, wow a bit of a mouthful. :)

i opt for a popularity i like. i could care much less approximately "honoring" relatives via naming a baby after them. there are various different a thank you to coach appreciation or remembrance for those you love or have enjoyed than to apply their call on your baby. I mean, if others prefer to persist with that custom there is not any longer something incorrect with it, it is in simple terms no longer for me. i do no longer particularly like a number of of my relatives names so I see no rationalization why I could could use a popularity I dislike. If I befell to truly LOVE a relatives call, i could evaluate employing it, yet as this is, i've got not got that concern. And yeah, i do no longer likely think of midsection names are that substantial in any respect. they are notably lots in no way used for something besides.
