WDYT of ÉBEN & ASTEN as nicknames for SÉBASTIEN?

Asten >> AH-sten
Sébastien >> SEH-bass-tee-enn \ seh-bast-YAWN

I've been trying to find a nickname I like for Sébastien for ages. I don't really like Séb, Bass, Bastien, Tien or Ben very much. I liked Ash & Aster but people said they didn't sound enough like Sébastien. So what do you think of these two?

Interesting! I think these two could work. I love Ben & Ash too but I too think they're not intuitive enough.



Also, what about Sén?

I think Ében and Asten are perfect as nicknames for Sébastien.





And I don't think Ash or Aster are too far of a stretch from Sébastien either.





If we can get Bill from William, Bob from Robert, Dick from Richard, Libby from Elizabeth, Peggy from Margaret and etc then Ében, Asten, Ash and Aster are just fine for Sébastien.



Oh, and I do like the name Sébastien also.

Ében >> EH-buhn....this would be pronounced AY-bin because of the accent on the E. Not a fan of it though



Asten is actually a cute nickname for Sébastien!



PS: Sébastien would be pronounced say-bas-TYAWN (hm French is hard to spell out phonetically...the final syllable is kind of truncated)



I suppose pronunciations don't matter much if you live in the US or even Britain...I'm Canadian so I know that most people here would pronounce Sébastien and Sebastian completely differently.

I really like Ében - I think it works really well as a nickname for Sébastien, and I also love the way the name sounds. Asten is cute too, but Ében is definitely my favourite - it's really cute and unusual. I think it works much better than Ash and Aster too. :]

It's interesting: because you're British, you pronounce Asten like we pronounce the boys' name Austin here in the states. I would have never even thought of that as a potential nickname for Sebastien! But I like it.



I must say, Ben is my favorite nickname, as I've recently come to love the name Benjamin. Eban reminds me of the song "Ebin" by Sublime, an American ska band. :] Youtube it if you get the chance. I think Ty or maybe even Seth could also be nicknames for Sebastien.

But Asten is also very nice.

I love those nicknames for Sebastien! It's so nice to use different ones than the norm, years ago before Isabelle was popular I loved the name but nickname Belle rather than Izzy (which was NOT common at the time)
