Question:
Twin sister for Ruby?
Ali
2015-12-09 14:59:55 UTC
We really like the name Ruby for one of our twins girls.

We really like old-fashion, vintage, and timeless names. Like our other daughters name, Norah.

Doesn't have to start with a R. But we prefer it's not another gem.

Rosalie seems to be on all the lists....it's a pretty name and I love the alliteration of the two girls' names: Ruby & Rosalie....Ruby & Rosie. Very pretty names that sound great together. Also, being an identical twin myself, I've always felt that similar sounding names help strengthen the bond between the siblings. But that's just my own personal theory. If they're fraternal, then perhaps different names with completely different sounds altogether?

I also like the name Emmeline (pronounced Emma-leen).

Ruby & Emma.....?

My other picks:

Grace

Caroline

Louise

Ginger

Katherine (Kat or Katie as a nickname)

Anyway, congratulations and good luck!

It seems really unreasonable to be against another gem name, particularly when you yourself point out that you are considering Jade. It is a Biblical classic that a good woman is worth "more than rubies and pearls" so Ruby and Pearl traditionally go together for twins. "Jade" can be an extremely troublesome name and is traditionally a name for the daughter of a very defiant woman. Like Jezebel or Athaliah or Vashti, it is technically (legally) possible to name a girl that, but implies that the mother has a real chip on her shoulder with the community. A "jade" was an old euphemism for a woman of easy virtue or a used up horse, even though the actual stone itself is pretty. "Ruby and Jade" is really setting them up to be the good sister and the bad sister.

I love the name Ruby. It's simple and cute and such a pretty gemstone. I don't think that, as a sibling set, the names Norah and Ruby really sound good together but that doesn't matter to everybody. I also really like both Violet and Jade. I think Jade is your best bet with one of the sister's names being Norah. I feel like i interpreted this question wrong so I apologize if this answer doesn't give you what you need. Hope this helps!

Ruby and Jade are actually a brother and sister I once knew. Ruby was the girl and Jade was her brother. I have also known a girl named Jade, and this name is neither masculine or feminine but suits either.

I also like your suggestion of Violet.

If you would like another R name then possibly Rose or Rosewita (rose weet a). I believe this is the correct spelling. I only knew one girl by this German name and she was very pretty, possibly one of the prettiest in school. One of my best friends is called Rose; a lovely natured girl. There are several versions of Rose such as Rosalie, Rosina, Rosaria and Rosie, that you could consider also.
?

I named my twin girls Patience and Constance.

I think Sapphire or Jade would go really well with Ruby but if you don't want another gem name then your options are pretty endless.

Elsa, Ellie, Ebony, Claire, Glenn, Lenora, Lynn, Carol, Carolina, Caroline, Susan, Rose.

Maybe Google lists of names if you haven't yet? I spent hours looking at lists of names with all four of mine and debating with myself about either this one or that one. When you hear the right name though you'll just know it. How far along are you in the pregnancy? I found that once I could start telling their little personalities apart it became much easier to pick out names for them.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I have a twin that has the same letter first name as mine it got very confusing with initials as kids , choose a name that suits ruby but not too similar as they are bound to have different personalities plus it's easier on people to tell twins apart 😂

Heidi, it's just as sweet but a bit different as sisters are, and the nick names are cute, when you're calling them for dinner, "Hey Rubes, Hides dinner's ready". Still they are real names, not obscure and have no weird rhymes or negative connotations. My name is Tara and my sister is Leena, and I've always loved we have the same end sound 'a' Tar'a' & Leen'a' it's unifying when ppl mention both of us, like it's a bit poetic, I'm 29 now...just saying, 'Ruby & Heidi' has a poetic ring to it, though the names are so different.
