Question:
What do you think of the name January?
2008-04-01 13:27:09 UTC
People name their kids- May, April, December and September? I think January is a forgotten month.....

YES, I am just kidding. I think it's pretty lame to name your kid after a month. How about you?

Well, I can stomach April, May and June because those are common names, but the others, forget it.

Let's start a new trend and name someone "March". Then see what happens when they join the military as an adult.

I knew at least one girl named January years ago. Personally, I don't think it's lame if you like the name. Septermber and December, no.

Boys: August and Julius (that month was named for Julius Caesar by the way), but I don't care for either of them.

And even Septembe and December sound better than Clay, Petunia, John, Rose, Patty.

But then amuone with the last name Potts would think that.

I think May is a pretty name! I have never heard anybody named September December November.... though. I have seen an April and June before though.

I'm due in January, as well!!! Do you have any family that you might want to name her after? That might make it even more meaningful since you haven't indicated that the middle name has any special meaning to either of you. If her name is just random, she may be kinda jealous of her brother who is named after his father. I'd go with a family name :) Congrats and good luck picking!

Hey,

Good thing you're kidding. I like the name April for a girl, and sometimes May, but deff. not December, September and January! Those don't even sound like names for children.

Ugh... January is cold.

May and April are pretty common but I've never heard of December and September ;)

I met a girl named Clittora... I thought that was weird. People are sooooo cruel when it comes to naming their kids. ;)

When I think of January I don't see a little girl. Instead I see snow and ice, which makes me feel cold. Therefore I would not wish that name on anyone.

I agree that it is pretty lame to name your child after a month. Some people have no imagination.

I knew someone with the name April once and I thought that was a nice name. May and June could be used for names I guess, but I wouldn't call my kid either of those. Other than that those names should be used for months only.

ye, January is a month, not good for a kids name. Besides November can join January in that forgottenness :P

I think the abreviated form JAN,is terrific and seldom used.My great grand mother is May June Trebilcock ;guess when she was born? The only Jan I know is short for Janet. The only one out of a couple hundred.A friend named their daughter April. My kids are named after my favorite Bible characters.
2008-04-01 13:30:24 UTC
I think its lame too! But I know an April, a May and a January!

I actually went to school with a girl named January. January Tannebaum to be exact. I sure as heck couldn't forget that name. Nice girl, lol.

I actually think January is a nice name for a girl. I wouldn't use it personally, but I've definitely heard way worse. At least it's not 'Nevaeh' or some other made-up crappy name.
2008-04-01 13:34:12 UTC
I think it's awful to name a kid one of the months OR one of the days of the week. I've heard that one as well.
2008-04-01 13:38:21 UTC
Because Janus is the root of the name January.

2008-04-01 13:31:16 UTC
Oh, I am so glad you are kidding!

The only upside is that you could nick-name them Jan or ry (said ree)

I was trying to come up with the nicest way to tell you that January is a mean name to saddle a kid with!

My middle name is May.. (Chloe May) and i think some of the shorter months - may april and june are okay but january is pushing it a bit too far..

Yea it's stupid and shows a lack of imagination.

January is the month named after the two-faced Roman god, Janus:

"In Roman mythology, Janus (or Ianus) was the god of gates, doors, doorways, beginnings, and endings. His most apparent remnants in modern culture are his namesakes: the month of January, which begins the new year, and the janitor, who is a caretaker of doors and halls."

ok i was worried when you said "what do you think of the name january?".. i think the only month its ok to name your kid is april because even if it wasnt a month, it would still sound like a name. if january wasnt a month, people would think you were crazy for naming your kid something like that, same with the rest of the months. i just think its weird, january would be BAD..... but thats just my opinion. ^_^
2008-04-01 13:32:15 UTC
i think its weird leave those names to the months think of the teasing the poor kid will get in school unless its a lil home schooled freak then in that case its totally fine cuz the whole family will be strange
Mortuseon
2008-04-01 13:30:07 UTC
Your child would get teased, but definitely a girls name if you were to go for it.

It could be a cute name, but since it's unusual, it might not be wise. After years of being called 'Hanne' (rhymes with Danny') I know unusual names can be grounds for people to tease on.(replace H with F)

=[

Never heard the name September before?

April, May, June, July & August...that's as far as it goes/ should be legally allowed.
2008-04-01 13:38:49 UTC
well my name is ellysia and thats pretty strange where i liv but ppl dont think of it as strange they think of it as special and unique i think that january might be a little bit better than just goin wiv sum common name lyk hannah, jessica etc... but

if it was me i think i wud spend ages on picking a really different name and maybe i might call it february you neva know....=) lol but yeh i kinda c where u r cummin from......hmmmm = s
2008-04-01 13:31:15 UTC
I can't even describe how dumb I think that is.

Months have their own names, just like people should.

It only causes confusion, and there's nothing cute about being named after a month! Especially if you're born in another month.. Makes it seem like they wish you were born at a different time.
2008-04-01 13:31:14 UTC
SO LAME
