Some people may mispronounce it the first time, but most people will get it right when told. Many people will tecognize it from the actor John Rhys-Davies or other famous people with the name including a baseball player, a golfer and a soccer player.

Why so complicated? Can't you stick to a name that will be comfortable for others to call. Frankly, a name is meant for someone to address a person and not wonder how to address this person.
It amazes me!!!

You might have to correct a few people but Rhys has been one of the traditional spellings for "rees" for ages.

'Rhys' is a Welsh christian name and within the Welsh (Cymraeg) language it is pronounced 'Reece/Rees'.
Tell anyone who meets him for the first time that it is pronounced 'Reece/Rees'' NOT 'Ris/Rice'.

Rhys is the classic spelling and I much prefer it. Never been keen on phonetic spellings. I think most people should know how to pronounce it. It's a fairly popular name, at least here in the UK.
