Question:
Tie between Iris and Corinne?

I'm thinking of using Iris as our daughter's first name but my husband thinks it'd be terrible as it sounds too much of an old lady, so he's more lean to Corinne which is more "current" and stronger to be a fn but I don't know, I like both of them but Iris is really beautiful and since I lost the name Kimberley, I don't even dare to ask the opinion from ppl around me, so could you give some opinion, does Iris really sound old? Do you think so that it might not work as a first name?

I think Iris is really charming, and not "old lady" at all. Retro names from the 1920s like Ruby and Dahlia are back in vogue, and I think Iris is part of that movement.

Actually I think it's Corinne which sounds dated! It was popular in the 1960s and 70s, so it seems a bit middle-aged and frumpy to me.

I have to side with you over this one; I think Iris would make a great first name. But if your husband utterly hates it, you'll have to find something you both like. I hope you can convince him to change his mind.

Iris is a gorgeous name... no offence but your husband is silly to suggest it's an old lady name lol. [Any name can be an old lady name... example: one of my sisters is named Liliya.. that will be an old lady name one day too because she'll get old lol]

Maybe Iris Corinne would be nice as a compromise?... I say that because Corinne isn't a bad name and your husband prefers it... so why not put them together?

another possibility is Corinne Iris [but I like Iris more]

But anyways... to answer your question specifically... no, I don't think it sounds like an old lady name. It sounds lovely! :)

I do think it'd be fine to use for a first name... I don't see why there would be any problems with that. [Besides your husbands opinions]. But go with what you like... hopefully both you and your husband come to a compromise or an agreement on a name you both love:)

Hi there,

I LOVVE the name Iris !! Yea I know what your hub means when he says it sounds like an old lady, but that's what's great about it, it will be one of the names that everyone is going to love in a few years, I bet on it......

I'm alot older than most of you here (in my 40s) and back in my day (LOL) names like Emily, Emma, Hannah, Matilda, Violet, Ruby were considered ugly, old lady names and now look how popular they are!!

I do like the name Corinne as well, would your hub go for Corinne Iris, although Iris Corinne sounds better......

When I hear Iris I think of the beautiful flower :)

"old lady names" are making a comeback!!

That's interesting your husband thinks Iris sounds like an old lady name! I think it's really nice. And for the record, the only Corinne I've ever known was really old!

Iris!!! I knew a girl named Iris and it didn't seem old at all. It's not like Rose, which makes me think of old ladies. I've never heard of any older ladies being named Iris anyway. It's unique and feminine and pretty.

Corinne is harsh and less girly.

Iris is not old ok! It's traditional and strong! I vote Iris because Corinne is boring and will surely be mis-pronounced.

And hasn't your husband heard, old is what's current.
